Székelyföld [Székelyland]

The social independence of Székelys living in Transylvania had come to an end by the 14th century. The territory, known as Székelyföld [Székelyland], had been formed by the turn of the 13th century. Its parts were the following: 1. Telegd (Udvarhely)-szék, 2. Maros-szék, 3. Csík-szék, 4. Sepsi-szék, 5. Kézdi-szék, 6. Orbai-szék, and finally 7. Aranyosszék [szék = chair].

A Turkish principality in Middle-Anatolia, near Konya. It derived its name from its ruling dynasty. From the 1440-1450s it came under the authority of the Osmans, surrendering only in 1475.
