the fortress of Fülek (Fil'akovo, Slovakia)

Fülek
One of the most important border fortresses in front of the mining towns lying along the Garam river, which was occupied by the Turks in 1554. It consisted of an upper, middle and lower part, which we can see today in ruins. It was the northernmost fortress of the Turks. It was reoccupied by royal troops led by Miklós Pálffy in November, 1593. This event was one of the most important Christian successes of the 15-year war (1591-1606).
