The print of a seal (triparium) on a soft material with a graphic and inscription referring to its owner, which served as distinctive (authentic) signs of (private) individuals and corporate bodies. They were commonly - but not exclusively - used to certify charters. The material of seals was usually wax of natural colour or coloured with complementary materials, but it could also be made of malleable metals, like lead or gold. Seals made of these metals are called bulls.
