Amikor képzeletünk hamuba sült pogácsájával és talán még a remény szikrájától is megfosztva, elszántan nekivágtunk a világnak, otthagyva mindent, ami és aki addig voltunk és a házat, amelyből anyánk gyenge karja nyúlt volna még utánunk, hogy marasztaljon, akkor a gyökértelenséget öltöttük magunkra. Menekülttáborokban bebizonyosodott, hogy a senki földjén nem volt semmi, ami addig emberré tett, meglazultak, sokszor eloldódtak az erkölcsi kötelékek - csak káosz volt, főleg a lelkekben. Ezért igyekeztünk valahova, ahol újra normális életformát alakíthatunk ki magunknak.

És megérkeztünk a szabad világba. Idegenbe. Ahol tudatosan, olykor ösztönösen, de azonnal keresni kezdtük az alkalmat, hogy magyarokkal találkozzunk. Honfitársakkal. Nyelvünket beszélő, dalainkat dúdoló, velünk együtt imádkozó embertársainkkal. Ez a belső kényszer vezette első lépéseinket a templomok felé, ezzel az igénnyel néztünk körül, hogy még hol lehetne... És ha nem volt, hát házat teremtettünk magunknak. Magyar házat.

We humans are just like that, when we leave our homes from which our mothers reach out their arms after us, when we become rootless wanderers, perhaps often the spark of hope is denied us. In the no man's land of the refugee camps there was nothing that helped to keep our humanity. The moral ties were loosened and often cut; only chaos existed, especially in the souls. That is why we struggled to arrive somewhere, where we could newly form a normal life.

And we arrived into the free world. A foreign unknown place. A place where, consciously, often instinctively, we started immediately to search for an opportunity to meet with fellow Hungarians; compatriots. People who spoke our language, hummed our songs and with whom we could pray together. This inner compulsion led our first steps toward the churches and we looked around with aspiration where else could we find cultural activities. And if there was no where else to turn to, we created a house. A Hungarian House. Continent-wide that is what happened and they are commonly called "Hungarian House."
