Abstract

Basically, the Hungarian society considers that the family and the children are values. However, the number of the children is far below the envisaged number, especially in the case of women with high education qualification. The involved individuals in the higher education and the recent graduates are in the ideal age of starting a family, but the extended studies, the realization of a proper professional basis, the career-building prolong the private life events, therefore women are less likely to have more children. The population of the Family and career research (2017) were full­time students. 11 Hungarian universities were involved in research and the type of sample design was stratified. Altogether 1502 usable questionnaires arrived back.

The most important message of the research's result is that the Hungarian university students are family oriented. The relationship, the family planning plays a very important role among the future plans of students, such as the dilemma for the career progression. For the respondent students the marriage is a value, and a significant number of them wants to have a child in the future. They think responsibly about starting a family, after finding the appropriate partner, they would like to become responsible parents and to strike a suitable balance between private life and career.
